Ok so: The Times says that the U.S., who have been friendly with the Honduran military and critical of Zelaya’s referendum, still feel that the summary ousting of Zelaya feels too much like a coup.
Meanwhile “thousands of Mr. Zelaya’s backers” are fighting with soldiers, and those in favor of the current government say they’re planning their own rally.
What does this come down to? Does majority rule matter here, when it’s a question of whose angry mob is bigger? And does the new government have any chance with all its neighbors either cutting trade, withdrawing ambassadors, or vowing to topple it?
