Yes. Yes, I would obviously download a car.

rickwebb:

I also love how everyone says they’d pay for HBO but don’t want to pay for HBO right now, even though you can.
I’d pay $500 for a Benz. But Benzes go for $50k. That’s BS. I have no choice but to steal one.

I’m kind of with you? Except that Benz competitors also go for $50k, whereas HBO’s competitors are delivered faster, at $30 a season or free with ads. So you’re basically telling me “You wouldn’t download a car!” and I’m saying “Yes. Yes, I would obviously download a car. I would be stupid not to download a car.”

Your metaphor isn’t actually a metaphor for this situation. I can’t pay for HBO. I can pay for HBO and ESPN and Bravo and a hundred other channels. An actual metaphor would be “I’d pay $50k for a Benz, but Benzes are only available for sale with this $1 million New York apartment. That’s bullshit.”

Now the part where I steal the Benz is not moral, I’m not really defending it. I’m just saying that Mercedes-Benz, by giving an exclusive distribution deal to RE/MAX, is gonna lose a lot of money.

And you know, I feel kind of bad for torrenting? But I don’t feel “buying a TV and subscribing to cable and finding a place to put the TV so I can watch three shows more legally than I do now” bad. Nope.

Sometimes I’ll put a glass bottle in the trash instead of the recycling, sometimes I’ll eat brutally murdered cow, and sometimes I’ll steal a TV show.
